At the start of this week, I was at Music Camp. This is where music begins every year; the first event of many. I am in the Senior Choir, which is the choir for years 10-12 at my school.
Observing the choir a year ago was very different. Back then, I was one of those year 10s. Having sung in the middle school choir, I saw that Senior Choir was a much better experience. I don't know whether it is just me or it's normal, but I seem to think that we were far better last year than this year's year 10.
This year, I can't remove myself from the fact that there are some people not in the choir to do good. The way I see it, these people (and others) are here to socialise rather than sing. This attitude can also be seen when they are asked "What do you think of the music?". A typical response would be, "I hate it" or "It's gay" or "It's really bad". These people also don't take any effort to sing. They don't sing the correct notes, constantly make mistakes and worst of all, they sing down the octave (sing at a lower pitch). These behaviours really slow down the progress of the choir and this is not what we want considering we have concerts as early as March!
I am also in the top choir in the school.
It is a much better environment than senior choir. We get through more music in
one rehearsal than any other choir. I feel good getting stuff done, as well as
being in a room full of talented people.
As obscure as this blog post is, I would like those lazy people to take notice of what you are doing and then think about whether you really should be in a choir.
